SHAKE, RATTLE, ‘N’ ROLL:  An arts in education musical program. Dave Revels has developed a music art appreciation program whereby he presents a musical tribute to the legends of American Rock and Roll. The presentation incorporates, costumes depicting the style of clothing worn by the legends of the 1950’s and 1960’s groups as well as a selection of their songs performed for the benefit of the students from Kindergarten to the sixth grade. The students learn about the various elements which made the music so popular such as the harmonies, dances (the twist), costumes and the musical instruments such as the guitar, drums and piano. They are encouraged to ask questions as well as answer questions on their musical tastes. The answers they give for liking the kinds of groups they enjoy is used to compare to the way kids felt about these legends back in the 50’s and 60’s. Dave Revels also shares stories and advice given to him by many of these legends whom he has worked with for over 25 years. Legends such as Ben E. King, Shirley Alston-Reeves (original lead singer for the Shirelles, The Temptations, The Platters, Drifters, Coasters and the Marvelettes. Students are also invited to participate in a dance routine created by Dave Revels called SHAKE, RATTLE, ‘N’ ROLL. His credits include work in rock and roll, rhythm and blues, folk rock, reggae and calypso. In calypso he has worked with such legends as The Mighty Sparrow, Arrow and Lord Kitchner. In the mid 1980’s he was a member of the legendary Hall of Fame group The Drifters, along with original members of that group Mr. Charlie Thomas and The late Mr. Elsbeary Hobbs. He has performed along side such legends as Ben E. King, Chubby Checker, Chuck Berry, Country legend Ronnie Milsap, The Temptations, The Four Tops and The Platters. Dave Revels has composed original music for a rock and roll musical including the title song called Love Potion Number Ten. The show ran for several months in Las Vegas, Nevada in The Sahara Hotel and Casino’s show room (The Congo Room). Currently he can be heard on the latest CD release album on Chesky Records by the world renowned a capella group The Persuasions entitled, The Persuasions Sing The Beatles. As a special guest artist, in addition to singing with the group, he was featured on the song ‘Octopus Garden’ on which he performed a whistling solo of the song’s melody. He has also sung phonetically in Yiddish, Japanese and recently, Hungarian on Hungarian composer Nikola Parov’s CD on Tom Tom Records entitled World Stars Hungarian Christmas. He also arranged and directed The Dave Revels Gospels performance on that CD as well. Dave Revels is also the author of an instructional book entitled ‘Mastering The Art Of Live Entertainment,’ whereby he teaches the methods he has honed over the years as to how to effectively communicate with an audience.
