Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by Dave Revels and the Stand Up
America Good Will Tour at Shea Stadium in New York City
August 7, 2005

The event paid tribute to the men and women of our armed forces and was organized by Dave Revels with
the cooperation and assistance of the New York Mets Baseball organization and Major League baseball,
without whom it would have not been possible. Over three hundred troops attended from all branches of
the Military as guests of the Stand Up America Good Will Tour. The night was capped off with a big win by
the Mets over the Chicago Cubs in front of 40,000+ fans!

Dave was given the honor of performing 'GOD BLESS AMERICA' during the 7th inning stretch.

The photo was taken during a special meet and greet just prior to the performance for the troops At Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, Mississippi  by The Elsbeary Hobbs Drifters, Platters and The Cornell Gunter Coasters.

In a joint effort by the military, the MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) And the groups themselves, fun was had by all at this free concert. Special recognition goes out to Scott and Joe from the USAED special events Division. Without their tireless commitment, the concert would not have been possible.

At another free concert, put on by the groups especially for the troops and their families, this time at The Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Maryland,  this great layout and article was put together by the  Post's  newspaper. To request a copy of the article email us.

Special thanks goes out to Earlene from the APG for her outstanding efforts at making this concert a success. Couldn't have done it without you Earlene.

"As a veteran who has fought for our Nation and our flag, this powerfully patriotic song says it all. It makes us stand up proudly for America with its people of all colors and cultures and see only red, white, and blue. Thanks Dave."

The Persuasions. L-R: Jayotis Washington, Joe Russell, Jimmy Hayes and Dave Revels.  Dave had the pleasure of recording with the Persuasions on their latest CD The Persuasions Sings U2. It was a very special time because Dave, a long time friend of the group, also arranged the songs and co-produced the CD, along with Jimmy Hayes(bass for the group) and David Chesky, co-founder of Chesky Records, the group's label). The record will be released in September 2005.

 China
Photo of me standing on the great wall:
It was a rainy mist filled day that we went to visit the wall, as you can see by the rain slicker I’m wearing and the mist in the back ground.

Of all the sights I had the pleasure of seeing in China, none impressed me more than walking along the Great Wall of China. Don’t tell anyone but I picked up a piece of loose stone from the wall and brought it back with me.

Tiananmen Square: This was taken just outside the Forbidden City as I
stood in the now
infamous location of The Chinese student rebellion where one man stood
defiantly in front of a
tank to impede it’s progress.

Basketball in China: One of our stops was to the Forbidden City. It was a mile walk from our hotel. While strolling through the Forbidden City, we came across some local kids playing basket ball in an open area within the Forbidden City grounds. We asked them if we could play a game with them and they said yes. About thirty minutes into the game we started hearing cheers when any of the kids made a basket. We looked up and the fenced area beyond the court was lined with hundreds of people who stopped to see the game. We felt like NBA stars and the Chinese kids felt like even bigger stars when the smallest member of their team scored the final basket. I guess like we are they are probably still talking about that most unexpected and eventful basketball game.

Two giants in their respective genre of music. Ben. E. King who had both a successful career as lead singer of the Hall of Fame group The Drifters  and an outstanding solo career with timeless hits such as Stand By Me. Ben E. King once gave me perhaps the greatest advice a songwriter can get when I asked him what should be of concern to someone who wants to be a writer. He said, don’t worry about trends, just write what you honestly feel and if one of your songs should gain recognition, the rest of your songs in your catalog will be ‘discovered.’  Here we are pictured in Curacao hours before his concert. I was the agent on this show who brought him down to Curacao.

The Mighty Sparrow, perhaps the most recognized individual in the music called Calypso. A perennial hit maker he is widely loved world wide as an ambassador of the music. He is a charismatic entertainer who always manages to create an air of intimacy and friendship with his audience.  I have had the honor on several occasions to record on his albums as a background vocalist and to perform in New York City at the Felt Forum on the big annual calypso mother’s day concert as a background vocalist.
